A boost leak will cause the turbo wheels to over-spin to try and make up for the lost pressure. This puts a lot of strain on the turbo and it will start to develop shaft play from running too fast too hot and poor oiling. Boost leaks can start out small and eventually turn into a blow-out or worse if left alone can eventually cause the turbo to fail.
This Charge Air Cooler tester kit is designed to fit into the flexible hoses on each side of your CAC and isolate it for a pressure test up to 60 PSI. The 2 billet end caps have 4", 3.5" and 3" steps. The 5 ft. extension line kit comes with an air pressure on/off valve, 150 pressure regulator to drop the source pressure down to a reasonable level, and allow you check the intercooler for leaks. The on/off valve allows you to cut the pressure source off and see how the intercooler holds air, visible by watching the 60 PSI mounted gauge. The machined slots and beaded edge on each step will provide superior grip to help keep the tester from slipping during a high pressure test, especially on the 4" size.
It is good practice to pressure test any new CAC before install to ensure it is leak free and avoiding removal and re-installation.
Being proactive with boost leaks can be just as important as other major maintenance, that if left alone can cause costly engine repair.
The main signs you have a leak are:
- Lower fuel economy!
- Loss of power, torque, poor towing
- Whistling noises, as awesome as they sound!
- Fluctuations on boost gauge
Whats included in this kit:
- (2) 6061 CNC machined end caps with 4", 3.5" and 3" steps that will fit a variety of class 7 and class 8 trucks
- 60 PSI mounted boost gauge
- 5ft Extension hose
- S.Steel Air on/off valve
- 150 PSI air pressure regulator
- 1/4" NPT thread and the common M-type compressor fittings

To get more value out of this CAC kit, you can add silicone adapter(s) for one of the end caps to work on your turbo inlet diameter. Available adapters include 3", 3.5", 3.75", 4", 5", 5.5" and 6"
With an adapter, one of the end caps can be used as a turbo boost leak tester to pressurize the whole charge pipe path from the turbo to the motor and detect any leaks including:
- all intercooler and charge pipes
- CAC / intercooler
- every single clamped connection
- o-ring connections
- EGR leaks
- intake manifold
...basically everything the turbo normally pressurizes while under boost.
