INSTRUCTIONS FOR CHARGE AIR COOLER PRESSURE TESTER

Charge Air Cooler Pressure Tester Charge Air Cooler Pressure Tester detail

This is a universal tool to test charge air coolers. The tool has step sizes of 3", 3.5" and 4" to adapt to most common semi-truck and medium duty trucks. Adapters are available for testing the full charge pipe system by using the 3" or 4" end with adapter silicone couplers up to 5", 5.5" and 6" turbo inlets.

This tool can also be used as a boost leak tester by installing one of the aluminum adapters directly on your turbo inlet with an adapter boot (available at turboboostleaktesters.com).

➤➤ Arrow on the bottom of the regulator indicates the proper direction of airflow. ➤➤

⚠ Always wear eye protection when using compressed air.

SETTING UP THE REGULATOR

Set up the regulator before testing. Turn the 150 PSI regulator down to 0 PSI — do this by lifting the cap up and rotating counter-clockwise until it stops.

Close the shut-off valve by turning it sideways, perpendicular to the air line. Connect the shop air line to the regulator and slowly open it to begin filling the system.

TESTING PROCEDURE

Build up to 5 PSI, watching the gauge mounted on the tester, and listen for leaks. Fix leaks or replace parts as needed. Retest using the same procedure and work up to 10 PSI, then 15 PSI.

If no leaks are heard, close the shut-off valve and test how well the charge air cooler holds pressure — the needle should not drop for a few minutes. Use soapy spray to find very small, inaudible leaks.

⚠ Safety: When using compressed air, it is your responsibility to ensure all connections to the boost leak tester are secure. Loose testers or any connected items can become projectiles under pressure, causing serious damage or injury. The tester can reach 60 PSI, but it is not necessary to test to this limit.
