Thank you for your purchase!  This tool will allow you to isolate and effectively test your charge air cooler up to 60 psi with  3”, 3.5” or 4” step size options.

  • (2) 60 PSI Billet CNC machined aluminum end caps with 4”, 3.5” and 3” sizes
  • (1) M-Type compressor air fitting and 60 PSI safety pressure release valve
  • (1) 150 PSI regulator and stainless steel ball valve 
  • (1) Extension hose with quick release connection to boost leak tester
  • (1) Teflon Tape for assembly

Fitment:

This is a universal tool to test charge air coolers.   The tool has step sizes of 3”, 3.5” and 4” to adapt to most common semi-truck and medium duty trucks.   

Adapters are available for testing the full charge pipe system by simply using the 3” or 4” end and using adapter silicone couplers to 5”, 5.5” and 6” turbo inlets.  

This tool can also be used as a boost leak tester by installing one of the aluminum adapters directly on your turbo inlet with an adapter boot which can be purchased at turboboostleaktesters.com

**Important Considerations when testing**

  • When using compressed air it is your responsibility to ensure that all connections to the boost leak tester are secure.   Otherwise serious damage can occur to you or your engine when compressing air.  Loose testers or any other items connected to the charge path can become projectiles under pressure.
  • The tester can reach 60 PSI however it is not necessary to test to this limit.  An important test is to see how well the system can hold pressure.  For example, filling with 20 PSI and closing the shut off valve and seeing how well the system holds pressure.  Passing this test eliminates the need to reach higher and more dangerous test pressure levels.   
  • Never stand in front of the boost leak tester or any object that can come loose.
  • Evacuate all compressed air before attempting to uninstall the tester.  Turn the regulator counter clockwise or pull the pressure safety release valve.
  • **Connect your air supply to the inlet of the shutoff valve, not on the other end where the regulator is.   Should be like this: Air Hose >> Shut-off Valve>>>Regulator>>Extension hose>>>Aluminum End CAP
  • Regulator only operates properly with air in one direction as indicated on the bottom of the regulator with an arrow

Basic Instructions:

  1. Set up the regulator before testing.
    1. Turn the 150 PSI regulator down to 0 PSI.  Do this by lifting the cap UP, rotate counter-clockwise until it stops.  Close the shut off valve by turning it sideways, perpendicular to the air line.
    2. Connect the shop air line to the regulator and slowly open the shut-off valve and build pressure in the extension line.  Do not connect to the boost leak tester yet to eliminate risk of over pressurizing
    3. Adjust pressure to something low, example, 5 PSI, then work your way up
  2. Install the boost leak testers on charge pipes, secure well with heavy duty clamps.  
  3. Connect the whole regulator/extension assembly to the boost leak tester and start to open the regulator valve by turning the knob counter-clockwise.  

**Connect your air supply to the inlet of the shutoff valve, not on the other end where the regulator is.   

Should be like this: Air Hose >> Shut-off Valve>>>Regulator>>Extension hose>>>Aluminum End CAP

  1. Build up to 5 PSI by watching the gauge mounted on the boost leak tester and listen for leaks.  Fix leaks, replace parts, etc.
  2. Retest using the same procedure and work up to 10 PSI, 15 PSI, and if no leaks are heard, now is a good time to go to step 6….
  3. Close the shut-off valve and test to see how well the charge air cooler holds pressure.  The needle on the boost leak testers should not drop for a few minutes.  
  4. Use soapy spray to find very small in-audible leaks.
